When is the right time to consume coffee after roasting? After roasting, coffee will undergo degassing process which releases carbon dioxide from the coffee beans. To get a good taste and character, resting time is needed to determine the peak of coffee enjoyment.
If coffee is consumed too far from the roasting date, the coffee will taste bland because coffee aroma is reduced consistently around 30 days after roasting and so on. This situation also affects the taste of coffee itself. Coffee brewed a few minutes or hours after roasting is also not recommended. Because, degassing process is not yet perfect and has less taste.
Each coffee has different calculation, but generally coffee experts agree that the ideal time to consume coffee is 7-14 days from the roasting date. Because in that period, the carbon dioxide is separated perfectly from coffee beans.
If you are not familiar with the concept of roasting date, don’t be shy to ask your roaster and baristas!
